StrongStripes September!

During September, the Executive Committee and I had the opportunity to serve breakfast at the Ronald McDonald house ! We cooked bacon, eggs, bagels, pancakes, and waffles, and got to know the families staying there. It was particularly awe inspiring to see how dedicated the employees at Ronald McDonald are to the families, how dedicated the families are to their kids, and how strong the kids are for continuing to fight. All of the executive committee members feel very connected to RMDH, as we have all had some experience either with RMDH, or an experience caring for sick family members.

Below are some insightful words from our executive committee members!

Executive Committee Member and Social Media Chair Lila Wrenn:

“My name is Lila Wrenn and I’m willing to serve at the Ronald McDonald house because I want to help people in whatever way I can. When I was born my twin brother had Omenn’s Syndrome, he was in the hospital for a while and my family stayed in the Ronald McDonald house, they greatly benefited us while he had a bone marrow transplant. Even the little things, such as a good breakfast, can be very beneficial to a person so to be able to give someone a smile in the morning when they might be about to face challenging situations is very important to me. I’m excited to serve again!”

President of Strong Stripes Remley:

“Hello! I'm Remley, the founder of StrongStripes. Since a young age, I've been dealing with chronic ITP, requiring biweekly hospital visits for infusions and trying various treatments. Last year, I discovered that I also have another rare disease called McCune Albright Syndrome. Being diagnosed at a young age and overcoming complications at school and home stemming from my illness, as well as seeing other patients dealing with the same thing, inspired me to start this nonprofit. Volunteering at RMDH was a great experience, and RMDH is a fantastic resource for children seeking treatment. I was so grateful to be able to meet the amazing families there. I learned that even something as small as a mickey shaped pancake can make someone's day!”

Executive Committee Member and Outreach Chair Angelina:

“My name is Angelina, and when I was around 10 years old, my mom was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a disease where the person’s body attacks itself, creating lesions in the central nervous system (the brain and the spine). This can cause an array of varying symptoms including fatigue and memory loss. I am also very close to others who have autoimmune diseases and have witnessed the challenges them and their families go through and overcome on a daily basis. I have always loved to serve and help people, but seeing what my mom and others that I am very close to go through on a daily basis has encouraged me even further to take action and help others and their families who go through similar things.”

Vice President Sami Durham:

"I loved that we were able to serve a community that is so helpful to the kids and families who have been deeply affected by conditions that we try to bring awareness to!"

We are so glad that we got to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. We loved getting to meet the families there!

We are very fortunate to have such passionate members, and are looking forward to all of our future volunteering endeavors! To further our mission you can always give financially through our “donation” page, or stay tuned for our “get involved” page for ways to volunteer!

Have a dazzling day!

Strong Stripes President,

Remley
